LS3/5a: foto, notizie, esperienze, con le nostre amate "scatole da scarpe"

@M.B. sono curioso di capire quali siano questi stand di cui parli...

Infine mi nasce spontanea una domanda , tra tanti appassionati e ovviamente tante coppie di 3/5a se ne dovresti indicare 1 ed 1 sola , che ovviamente non abbia riscosso favorevoli apprezzamenti da tutti ma accontentando diciamo così la maggior parte dei presenti alle audizioni...spero di essermi spiegato nel porre il quesito...🤗

@naim vero. Per me più schizzinose delle 3/5. Io uso gli stand leggeri delle Graham 5/9 con sottopunte Harmonix. L indicatore principale che qsa non va è la gamma bassa e medio bassa che diventa “ boomy “ e disarticolata. Quando tutto è a posto non si sente il bisogno di un eventuale sub.

Premetto che il circolo era attivo negli anni '90...

Ad ogni modo, apprezzamenti positivi, più o meno univoci, si riscontravano sulle Spendor. Forse le più musicali. Quelle più dibattute erano certamente le Rogers, che tra tutte avevano anche le maggiori tolleranze di produzione (e di suono). 

A metà strada le Kef Raymond Cooke, che avevano un suono leggermente meno medioso delle Spendor, ma anche più contrastato a livello dinamico. Sicuramente quelle dal suono più "moderno".

Oggi, mi piacerebbe ascoltare nelle medesime condizioni le Falcon. Altri modelli recenti non hanno suscitato in me, dopo l'ascolto, alcun interesse!

Su questi famosi Foundation  si sono create leggende e miti,un noto punto vendita cercò in tutti i modi di clonarle ma senza successo(parole del titolare)io li ho avuti originali con Rogers 11 0hm,e per quanto non ami questo diffusore,devo ammettere che il medio basso era fantastico.La riedizione non so se sia ancora commercializzata,ma non ha avuto grande successo,evidentemente non avevano il brevetto,si vociferava che il segreto era una sabbia speciale,mah miti leggende chi lo sa....

@jimbo si , anche io ho sentito spesso parlare di questo materiale che creava quel particolare modo di " suonare " o se vogliamo di risuonare dei Foundation mk1 ...poi che dire

 Ciao a tutti, ho una coppia di diffusori di importante litraggio, mi farebbe piacere avere un’alternativa mono wiring, tra le scatole di scarpe, su quale mi oriento secondo voi esperti del genere? Non sarà un secondo impianto, ma una cassa alternativa a quella principale, quindi stesso set up e stessi cavi che uso normalmente. Amplificate da 2 mono a stato solido, quindi nessun problema di pilotaggio. Grazie

Si che ce l'hanno, è un prodotto ufficiale per il quale ha collaborato il produttore originale Inglese (che gli appunto venduto il brevetto).

 

 

 

Foundation Profile and History

 

Cliff Stone was the founder of Foundation Audio in 1979, which produced a single-stem metal speaker stand in England. The single-stem metal speaker stand became extremely popular and was known as the Foundation Classic. Many audiophiles marveled at its superior build, quality, finishing, and pleasing aesthetic. Having achieved to be the benchmark of all speaker stands, the Classic was put to draw comparisons with other stands within the same price range category through the years. Cliff Stone took 2 years to synthesize the unique Foundation Formula Fill which was used in filling the speaker stand in the factory. He was rewarded the Accessory of the Year Award by The British FBA for his great effort in 1985. Formula Fill was a mixture of filling materials applied to speaker stands. The Fillings cancel out unwanted harmonics and absorb some of the vibrations generated by the speaker cabinet. It opened up the speakers' natural sound without any change to the basic character of the speaker.

In 1996, Cliff Stone sold Foundation Audio to Focus Audio, a high end speaker manufacturer based in Markham, Ontario, Canada.   Focus adhered to the authority of  "the Foundation" of its products and designs whereas Cliff Stone remains as an exclusive consultant of future projects. Immediately after the acquisition, Cliff Stone modified the Classic and Designer speaker stands. The new stands outperformed the old Classic. They are given the names the Classic II and Designer II. Since then, the new stands have been manufactured in Canada.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR DESIGNER MK II / CLASSIC MK II LOUDSPEAKER STANDS IMPORTANT . . . . ! Please read these set-up instructions first. Setting up your Foundation Stands is as important as any other part of a Hi Fi system, so, please take the time, it will be worth it. It really is very simple, but many ignore the fundamentals of, Blu-Tack® (made by Bostik Ltd.), room placement and toe-in. There is a popular belief that cones or spikes are the best interface between speaker and stand, not for Foundation stands. They require a direct link to transfer the distorted low frequency cabinet harmonies into the stands and 'Formula Fill’. The ‘Formula Fill’ is enclosed into the stands and protected by means of Foundation stickers. Never try to remove the stickers. The ‘Formula Fill’ will be disturbed, leading to detrimental of sound and void of warranty. Four pieces of Blu-Tack® per stand, roll each into 5mm balls and place one at each corner of the top plate. Your speaker is pressed firmly onto these balls, the Blu-Tack® should spread out to 1mm thick, any thicker, you have not pressed hard enough, thinner is OK. The carpet spikes should be left out for the present, the stand and speaker can now be slid around auditioning different room positions and angles of toe-in. It is not unusual for the best position to be a little further away from walls than would be considered normal. Particularly noticeable on speakers that usually require close proximity to the back wall. False frequency enhancement from wall is as undesirable as uncontrolled cabinet enhancement, or in simple language, distortion! Mark the position, masking tape works well, remove the speakers from the stand by twisting them around their vertical axis. The level of adhesion is underestimated by most, levering, pushing or pulling will have the danger of removing the veneer from your speaker, twisting, is mechanically very gentle, and requires very little strength and is usually most appropriate. Carpet spikes can now be screwed in, the stand returned to your marked position, and levelled up. VERY IMPORTANT; Commonly ignored, the speaker/stand interface is seriously compromised if the Blu-Tack® balls are not reformed every time the removal procedure is performed. Varying the amount of Blu-Tack® will affect the sound, try the 5mm balls first, then experiment if you wish. However, experience has shown that 5mm or smaller is generally the best option. Don't be tempted to use three or five Blu-Tack® ball, neither work. Blu-Tack® is the only substance that works satisfactorily as an interface, having tried everything from chewing gum to sticky tape. Even the so called, purpose made 'Tack' type materials do not have the same qualities as the Blu-Tack® supplied. C. J. Stone Foundation Audio Ltd.

Credo che siano tuttora in produzione, il problema è che in Italia non sono più distribuiti (io li avevo presi da PlayStereo). Inoltre erano comunque costosi; il Canada è lontano e spedire 45 kg di stand + imballo, diventa impegnativo,

la diffusione dei piedistalli open frame, credo che in parte sia dovuta anche al discorso peso.

Come detto già all'inizio del 3D,ne ho avute quattro coppie di diversi marchi.Ho avuto i Foundation originali,quelli presi da PlayStereo,ed ora ne ho una coppia barattata con un mio amico che non so neanche chi li fa,ma di peso e fattura ottimi.Posizionarne su stand con una certa massa e con una certa riempitura,serve a limitare il più possibile le risonanze trasmesse dal diffusore ad esso.Cosa importante è che il progetto tiene conto anche della risonanza del cabinet,che è  parte integrante della timbrica dei piccoletti,quindi evitare il posizionarle su punte,perchè in questo modo,le proprie risonanze verrebbero scaricate allo stand impoverendo anche le armoniche.Ecco perchè si consiglia vivamente l'uso del Blu-Tack,questo materiale ha due proprietà,la prima è quella che ancora saldamente i diffusori sul piano,secondo,e più importante,lascia risuonare il mobile senza che si scarichino le vibrazioni allo stand essendo un elastomero.Vi invito a fare una prova semplicissima,prendete un libro ben pesante e poggiatelo sul diffusore,io utilizzai dei sacchetti di piombo di vari chili,beh,avrete un suono smorto,privo di armoniche,inscatolato,dovuto appunto dallo smorzamento vibrazionale del cabinet.
